A twelve metre fin whale was found stranded in the River Elbe at the Port of Hamburg, Germany on the 14th of October. Firefighters using a crane, later lifted the dead animal from the river.

Initial reports suggest that the animal may have been struck and carried into the port on the bows of one of the many vessels operating in the area.

Samples, collected from the from the marine mammal, and sent for analysis are expected to reveal what that may contributed to the mammal’s death.
