Indonesia says illegal fishing crackdown successful

Indonesia says its tough new policy of sinking illegal foreign fishing boats has led to a dramatic decline in the number of incursions.
Indonesia's fisheries minister, Rochimin Dahuri, says the number of foreign poachers fell to about 1,000 boats last year, with an estimated loss of $US1 billion in catches.
This compared to more than 5,000 boats and annual losses of $4 billion in previous years.
The minister also says Indonesia must boost its fishing industry, which is still weak compared to Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan.
The government plans to relocate about 1,000 fishermen's families next year from Java to the eastern islands to maximise output.
