Fish food
You may have noticed the dropping price of farm raised salmon at your local market. Paying as low at $3.99 for a nice, pink pound ofOmega-3 packed fish may seem like a deal, but at what cost? While much of the fuss in the last few years has been directed toward the hormones and drugs pumped into beef and poultry, fish has been left out of the loop. To combat disease infestations brought on by overcrowding, farmed salmon are routinely fed antibiotics and sulfa drugs. These drugs stay in the salmon you cook and can leak into the ocean waters to kill or damage other creatures. While, wild salmon gets it's pink flesh from eating krill and other crustaceans, farmed salmon must augment their diet of fish pellets with dye to achieve their "natural" color. Next time, look for wild, Alaskan salmon. It may cost a bit more, but, in the end, it's the healthier choice for both you and the environment.
