Financial Boost for Fish Mongers During Seafood Week 2002

Fishmongers who carry out campaigns on or around this year's biggest seafood promotion, Seafood Week, could receive financial assistance from the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish).

Focusing on diversity and taking place 4 to 11 October 2002, Seafood Week will once again start and end on a Friday, the UK's traditional fish eating day.

To ensure that this year's Seafood Week is supported by as many fishmongers as possible, Seafish is carrying out an incentive called Seafood Week

Promotional Assistance to encourage mongers up and down the country to get involved in the Week. This promotional activity has been organised to assist mongers who have innovative ideas to promote their businesses and need some financial assistance to kick-start their plans.

Seafish will consider financial contributions towards promotional or advertising campaigns taking place on or around this year's Seafood Week. The maximum contribution will be £200 per business, but no more than 50% of the total campaign budget. Mongers' co-operatives can also apply together with the aim of producing a joint promotional campaign and receive up to £200 each. In addition, point-of-sale packages with a range of materials such as posters, recipe leaflets and details of an exciting customer prize draw will be made available for mongers to order.

Andy Gray, Seafish Trade Development Executive said, "We are delighted to be able
to support those fishmongers who have great ideas for promoting themselves during Seafood Week. With everyone in the industry working together, this year's Seafood Week should be a great success."

In the first instance mongers should contact Seafish to obtain an application form for promotional assistance. Whilst all applications will be assessed on their merit, Seafish anticipates a huge response so applications must be with Seafish by 31 July 2002.

Once Seafish has approved mongers' applications, the activity must take place on or around Seafood Week. Money will be released on completion of the mongers' activities and on receipt of evidence that the projects have been completed. On completion, mongers may be asked to quantify the success of their campaigns.

Application forms can be obtained from the Trade Development Administrator at Seafish, 18 Logie Mill, Logie Green Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4HG, telephone 0131 558 3331.
