NOP survey shows consumer buying linked to environmental concerns.

An NOP survey, commissioned by the ScottishPower group, has shown that UK householders are changing their buying behaviour out of a genuine concern for the environment.

Two in every five UK consumers are buying more environmentally friendly products now than they did five years ago.

74% of all respondents in the UK said they are buying more green goods because they are concerned for future generations.

The majority also said they would prefer to buy from a company which helped the environment by recycling waste materials and supporting green energy.

When asked how cash donations from major companies should be used to help the environment, 42% voted for local environmental protection projects, such as planting trees and cleaning up rivers, around a quarter said supporting renewable energy projects and
a further quarter said sponsoring wildlife protection schemes.
