Volunteers needed to help Marine Conservation Centre

Silver Dolphin Marine Conservation Centre

2nd September 2003

Volunteers are urgently needed to help the Marine Conservation Centre raise awareness of cetacean bycatch problems.

Staff at the Silver Dolphin Marine Conservation Centre in Porthleven, are heavily involved with recording cetacean deaths around the Cornish coast.

In an attempt to raise awareness of the shear number of deaths around our coastline, the centre is planning to build sand sculptures on the beach at Longrock, Marazion on Friday 12th September. The objective is to build one dolphin sand sculpture for every dead one washed ashore during 2003.

With over 200 cetaceans washed ashore so far this year, the Silver Dolphin Centre will need a lot of help from willing volunteers. Staff also hope that some of the local schools, colleges and community groups will help to achieve the task.

If you would like to find out more about this event or help with the building of the sculptures, you can contact the Silver Dolphin direct on 01326 572002 or email conservation@silverdolphin.freeserve.co.uk
